Bob James / Keiko Matsui 4 Hand Tour

January 10 - 17, 2001

1/16/01

This is basically how the stage looked. Each hall was a little different, and we had some very dramatic lighting which changed subtly throughout the evening, created by our great Japanese lighting designer, and supervised by the creative eye of Kazu.

Each night before going on stage we gather for a prayer...
actually a chant led by Kazu. It brings our minds into
focus for the musical challenges to follow.

We wore formal dress for Part I, Keiko in silver & black sequined gown,
me in tux. This is how we looked after changing for Part II.

Jun Sato, Keiko & Kazu's close friend brought us to his town of Ibaraki to perform in a beautiful small concert hall. We were treated in grand style. Jun arranged to have me dress for a photoshoot in a formal traditional Japanese kimono. I became so accustomed to it, that we decided that I would wear it for the second half of our concert. Wearing the sandals made it a little difficult to manipulate the pedals, so I took them off and wore just the Tabi sox! This first photo shows me getting dressed by the expert kimono wardrobe lady.
