In 1965 the Bob James Trio released it’s second album, EXPLOSIONS. The improvisational work on this album is blended with experimental sounds to form a complex soundscape, leading listeners on a sonic journey reminiscent of the modern urban experience of the time. The sound on this album is vastly different than the musical experience of James’ later albums. It was one of the first recordings to merge traditional jazz instrumentation with electronics, utilizing experimental tape manipulation, and even included the smashing of glass plates. There is a real spirit of discovery throughout, and a sense of things yet to come.
Be sure to catch the latest incarnation of the Bob James Trio, featuring Billy Kilson and Michael Palazzolo, on tour this spring!
